Dyson drops its first travel-size hair dryer in time for summer vacation

Dyson finally has a travel hair dryer

As a longtime beauty editor, I’ve tested more hair dryers than I can count — and in my experience, nothing comes close to Dyson. I’ve been loyal to the original Dyson Supersonic for nearly a decade, and more recently added the Dyson Supersonic Nural and Dyson Airstrait into my routine, both of which have only reinforced that opinion. So when I heard Dyson was finally launching a travel-ready version, I was immediately intrigued.

Today, Dyson introduced the Supersonic Travel, the brand’s first-ever hair dryer designed for travel. It’s 32% smaller and 25% lighter than the original, but still promises the same fast-drying, high-performance airflow Dyson is known for (without relying on extreme heat). It also features intelligent heat control, measuring air temperature up to 100 times per second to help prevent damage and maintain shine.

For frequent travelers, the biggest upgrade is easily the universal voltage. If you’ve ever had to leave your Supersonic behind on an international trip (I have, many times), you know how frustrating that is. This new model automatically adapts to worldwide use, so you can take it anywhere.

It’s also compatible with existing Supersonic and Supersonic Nural attachments, making it a seamless extension of the lineup. At $299.99, it’s also a more accessible entry point into Dyson hair tech (though, of course, all Dyson hair products remain a splurge).

Between the smaller size, lighter weight, and global usability, this is one launch that actually makes traveling with your full beauty routine feel realistic. However, if you’re looking for something for everyday use, we also recommend the Dyson tools below.

More Dyson hair dryers we love

Dyson Supersonic Nural

My personal favorite Dyson hair dryer (or, favorite hair dryer by any brand, really) takes everything fans know and love about the OG Supersonic and adds smart technology to make the getting-ready process more seamless than ever. It memorizes your preferred heat and airflow settings for each attachment and automatically adjusts when you click them on. It knows when it’s being placed on a counter and thus pauses airflow, and it senses when it’s too close to your scalp and adjusts its heat output accordingly.

This newer, super-lightweight version of the Supersonic is great for reducing arm fatigue during hair drying, while delivering the same strong airflow Dyson is known for. It comes with five attachments to suit a variety of styling needs.

Dyson Supersonic Professional

With salon-grade power, this hair dryer is designed to dry strands faster and more effectively. It includes five attachments for styling various hair types, as well as a spare inner filter.
