Dyson recently launched its first blowout brush, the Dyson Airsmooth, which is also the brand’s lowest-priced hair tool yet at $250. Since I already own and regularly use the Dyson Airwrap and its brush attachment as a blowout brush, I was skeptical that this new product was necessary in my arsenal. After trying it, I’m a convert and can confidently say it’s the best hot air brush I’ve ever tried.
The Airsmooth may look like a traditional hot air brush, but, as always, Dyson packed some clever technology into the design. Most notable is its frizz-fighting capability. The Airsmooth uses two kinds of bristles to diffuse airflow with the perfect amount of tension, resulting in less breakage and a smoother, shinier finish.
The brush head’s teardrop shape gets air closer to your roots. I found that I could work with fairly large sections at a time, which helped me get through my hair quickly. Previously, the brush head attachment on the Dyson Airwrap was my go-to hot air brush, but this dedicated blowout brush is smaller, more ergonomic, and definitely gives me the smoothest finish. Other hot air brushes I’ve tried (including the affordable favorite Revlon One-Step Volumizer Plus 2.0) result in more visible post-styling frizz and long-term breakage.
Like with all Dyson hair tools, preventing breakage is a top priority in the design. The Airsmooth measures its air temperature over 20 times per second to protect your hair from heat damage.
